The
South Devon Railway
Operations Department

This Group of volunteers from the South Devon Railway Association provide the train crews (Drivers, Firemen, Guards and Travelling Ticket Inspectors) for the South Devon Railway trains and without them there'd be no trains.
If you'd like to become a Driver or Fireman then why not try one of our Footplate experience days (Steam or Diesel) and see how you get on.
If the bug bites, then once you're a member of the SDR Association, you can apply for full training.
For Drivers and Firemen you work your way up in the traditional fashion from Cleaner through Fireman to the eventual dizzy height of Driver.
To become a Guard you start as a Travelling Ticket Inspector (TTI) and after formal training and examination you join the select band of Guards.  It must be remembered that the Guard is in charge of the Train and nobody else, which is quite a responsibility!
So why don't you start on the ladder by becoming a member of the South Devon Railway Association now ?
